Acrylic Works by Michelle Jewett
Friday, Nov. 8th from 5:30pm to 7pm
Formally educated in structural and dynamics engineering, Michelle rediscovered her love for painting when she and her husband moved to Nevada City in 2009. A self-taught artist, Michelle is drawn to vibrant color, which is reflected in her landscapes and abstracts.
Michelle’s work has been a progression. Experimenting with color, mixed media, and various acrylic painting techniques, her work reflects her desire to try new creative approaches. Her body of work includes landscapes, still lifes and abstracts. Michelle’s landscapes are inspired by the ever changing colors and scenery of the Sierra foothills and places where she has traveled. She enjoys taking her own photos and introducing unexpected colors.
Michelle is drawn to abstracts, which to her, evoke feelings, moods and perhaps a subject that are unique to each viewer. She finds a freedom in creating art that is completely subjective. Michelle feels that the painting itself tells a specific story to the viewer which may capture a memory or a feeling.
Within the last year, Michelle has been creating abstract paintings with fluid acrylics. This painting technique allows Michelle the flexibility to be completely in the moment and completely driven by color and inspiration.
